Degrees and Certifications:
Mark Manigo M.Ed
I, Mark Manigo have been an educator most of my life. I received my formal education from Lander University and received my teaching certification and education degree from Limestone College. I have taken graduate courses at USC Upstate, Furman University, Converse College and Concordia University. Before moving into the classroom, I had worked in accounting and management for companies such as Big Lots, Family Dollar, Denny’s, and Peachtree Ford. I have always had a passion for helping black males excel. I am an active mentor for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the Upstate and their current Council President. I was the Music Director for the Spartanburg County Congress for Christian Education for more than 10 years. I am always willing to help any student reach their potential. I currently teach science at Carver Middle School and I am a founder of the Carver Mentoring program which partners with BBBS of the Upstate and My Brother’s Keeper. Lastly, I teach Music Appreciation at USC Upstate’s College of Educational Enrichment.
Without a doubt, as I learn and grow in the teaching profession, so will styles and methods change, even philosophies. But this fact won’t change. It is important how young people see themselves in our community. That view will affect their dreams, aspirations, and what they believe is possible for themselves and for their children. That view will dictate the kind of American citizen they will become and thus affecting the world we both must live in. It doesn’t matter if they become doctors, politicians or welders. The choice is theirs. They simply need to be equipped with the experiences that construct knowledge and skills so that they may have choices.” My motto is an adaptation of an old African proverb and states simply, “Reach one, teach one…I am my brother’s keeper.”
