Welcome to District 7
Welcome to the District 7 website. If you’re new to Spartanburg and looking for information about our schools, we hope this will be your go-to resource. Our District and school websites reflect the dynamic spirit of our District and the many initiatives that support our efforts to inspire and equip our students for meaningful lives of leadership and service.
My name is Jeff Stevens and I am honored to have assumed the role of Superintendent for Spartanburg School District Seven. Through this transition, I worked closely with Dr. Russell Booker to ensure we continue the level of excellence that has long been a hallmark of this district.
I am a proud product of District Seven, having graduated from Spartanburg High School in 1985. I went on to earn undergraduate and graduate degrees from Western Carolina University, Furman University and Converse College. Most recently, I have worked in lockstep with Russell Booker during my role as Chief Operations Office for District 7 and prior to that as principal of Spartanburg High School. Our shared vision for our district and for Spartanburg will continue to play a major role in my leadership as superintendent.
In nearly every respect, this is a moment when our district is charting new ground. From my new role as superintendent to our collaborative work to create operational plans during a pandemic to discerning the best way to lead through this time of racial unrest across our nation, the clear path for us is Forward Together. I am pleased to share that we will adopt this theme as a guiding light for all we do during the 2020-2021 year. I hope you will embrace it with me, make it your own, and help our students form a connection with it so that it inspires all we do. I can think of few times in our history where these two words have meant more.
In looking to the fall, we know there is one question on everyone’s mind: What will education in D7 look like? I can assure you that my team and the entire D7 family is working diligently, alongside health professionals, to answer that very question. At the same time, we are striving to receive and incorporate vital input from you – our teachers and staff members – and our families. Our schools are only as strong as our communities and the neighborhoods that serve them. I believe in the vital importance of schools and community organizations working together for the betterment of our children and of the community we serve.
In District 7, we value equity and we must lead by modeling that value for our community. We teach our students that their voices matter and now is the time for all of our voices to be heard – in support of justice, peace and equity for all. This coming year, the importance of equity will only be intensified as we face the potential shifting among a traditional learning model, a hybrid model, and eLearning. I am confident we are up to the challenge.
I will do everything within my power to uphold our core values as we work together to inspire and equip our students for lives of meaningful leadership and service as world citizens. I look forward to working hand-in-hand with our student, parents, staff and community renewing the strength to the spirit of tradition, excellence, and innovation that has been a hallmark of our district.
Our journey together begins today. Forward Together.
