Welcome to Spartanburg County Adult Education

  • ********To all Spartanburg County Adult Education students: Earlier today, the decision was made to close South Carolina schools statewide amidst concerns over the spreading of coronavirus, also known as COVID-19. All Spartanburg County school districts are preparing their students to work from home beginning March 16th - March 27th. Our program will follow the same procedures that are being followed for staff and students. With that being said, regular classes will not be held beginning tomorrow, Monday, March 16th until April 6th, when students are scheduled to return from Spring Break. HOWEVER, all Spartanburg County Adult Education sites will be open tomorrow, March 16th, from 8:30 - 12:00 for students to come in to meet with their teachers and to pick up student folders, packets, handouts, online learning login information, etc. Our goal is to equip our students to remain as engaged in their learning as possible during this unprecedented time. Frequent updates will be shared via social media, as well as via the Remind messaging app. If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to call our offices or message us here on Facebook.********
Registration for 2019 - 2020 school year has begun at all of our Adult Education locations and is ongoing.
Please see the brochure found under "Registration Information" for a list of locations, regular class times, and each site's new student registration schedule. Our administrative office hours are 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. daily.

The David Houston Center (formerly Houson Elementary School) is home to the main site and administrative offices of Spartanburg County Adult Education, a countywide collaborative program serving adult residents of Spartanburg County. Utilizing certified instructional staff, the program offers classes in Basic Education, Pre-GED/GED preparation, high school diploma completion, English as a Second Language (ESL), and WIN (Formerly WorkKeys) preparation and assessments leading to the National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC). We also offer Skills Upgrade for those who already have a diploma, but wish to improve upon their academic skills and increase their chances of gaining, keeping, and advancing employment.
College and career navigation services are offered to all students to assist with the college application process, completing financial aid applications, setting goals, creating individual career plans, building employability skills, resume writing, and job search referrals.

A wide array of adult education classes are offered during both the day and evening hours at multiple locations throughout the county. Classes are offered year round, including an abbreviated summer schedule. Hours of operation begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at 8:00 p.m.  Student registration is open enrollment, allowing students to enroll at any time during the school year on designated registration/intake days.
