Dr. Valarie Cleveland-Tyson

My name is Valarie Cleveland-Tyson, and this is my fourth year as a first-grade teacher at E.P.Todd. I taught 3rd and 5th grades at Houston prior to coming to E.P. Todd. Interesting fact, before becoming an educator, I worked in the federal government, non-profit and corporate arenas. Out of all of my previous professions, teaching has been the most fulfilling career I have ever had. I thoroughly enjoy seeing students learn and grow, and it is my life's purpose to see them reach their fullest potential.

I was born in Spartanburg and attending schools in Spartanburg District Seven, including E.P. Todd. I received my undergraduate degree in Mass Media Arts from Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia. Later, receiving my Masters of Art in Teaching from Converse College, and my Plus 30 in education. This summer, I earned my doctorate in Professional Leadership from Converse University (previously Converse College). My certifications include Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education, and a Gifted and Talented endorsement. In 2014, I received the distinguished honor of being selected as Teacher of the Year for Houston Elementary School.

I am married and my husband and I have two beautiful daughters. My hobbies include reading, dancing, smiling, and spending time with family. As a lifelong learner, I am constantly taking classes and attending professional development opportunities to be the best educator I can be to ensure I am providing the best educational opportunity for your child.
