From school to school and throughout the District, there are dozens of opportunities to support our kids!

    Whether it’s reading to a kindergarten class, constructing a set for the high school play or mentoring a student in the District – we welcome your involvement.

    The following list provides a brief description of critical initiatives in the District.     Volunteer Forms and Procedures.

    Carver Elite Organization (Carver CEO’s)
    This leadership program at Carver Middle School pairs young men with local mentors in the community.

    Pine Street Foundation
    The Pine Street School Foundation was formed by a group of parents and grandparents seeking to help ensure that Pine Street Elementary School has the resources needed to enhance an already exceptional educational experience. The Foundation raises discretionary funds to support a grant process for teachers and staff to further develop innovative lesson plans and initiatives.

    The Pine Street School Homework Center
    The Homework Center is perfect for volunteers interested in an hour or two a week, working one-on-one (or in small groups) with students who may need some extra time or help doing homework. Students from Wofford, Converse, USC Upstate and especially the volunteers from First Presbyterian Church have been instrumental in the success of the program.  

    Pine Street Pals
    Volunteers can read with Pine Street students, or help with specific skill building activities with assistance from the classroom teacher.  

    Girls on the Run (GOTR)
    GOTR at Pine Street School offers girls in grades 4 and 5 the opportunity to run and learn life skills through dynamic conversation-based lessons. Driven by local volunteers in the community, students are paired with a female mentor who serves as both coach and friend.

    Distinguished Gentlemen and Girl Power
    These clubs at McCracken Middle School inspire and equip students with a wide array of opportunities for growth socially and academically through hands-on field experiences and mentoring.

    Reading Mentors at McCracken
    This is a group that works within our language arts department to provide a student with a caring adult who reads with and to students.  

    Books with Barbers
    This new program in the District is an outgrowth of the literacy initiative we call 7Reads. Books With Barbers puts children’s books, particularly targeted at young African-American boys, into local barbershops to promote reading for pleasure. With support from the District, the program funds a collection of books for participating barbers.

    SUIT
    Show Up in Ties is a male mentor program in which our male students dress up in ties on Wednesdays for a lunch program. The program consists of lessons on gentlemen's behaviors. Mentors are needed to be guest speakers and help host events. Donations of ties and sports coats are also welcomed. Contact Jonathan Duvall for more details- jmduvall@spart7.org

    Ladies Lunch
    Jesse Boyd’s Ladies Luncheon is a monthly event for our female students in grades 3-5. During their monthly meetings, ladies are given lessons on female empowerment. Mentors are needed to be guest speakers and to help host events. Contact Tricia Pressley for more details- ppressley@spart7.org or by calling the school. 

    Beta Club
    Beta Club members at Jesse Boyd are required to complete a number of hours of service to others. Students sometimes look for ways to serve others in our community. Community organizations that need volunteers are welcome to contact our school.  Contact Jennifer Breland for more details- jlbreland@spart7.org or by calling the school.

    Backpack Buddies
    Jesse Boyd offers 2 meals per-day for students. Some of our students do not get that third meal at home. Unfortunately, not all families can provide those afterschool snacks or warm meals at night. We provide backpacks full of food each week during school and summer to fill the gap for families in need. Every year, we look to our school and greater community to help provide nonperishable foods for the JBE pantry.  Contact Lynn Davis for more details- ldavis@spart7.org or by calling the school.

    Club Fridays at Jesse Boyd
    Each Friday, all of our students participate in a club. These clubs range in a variety of interests, from sewing to juggling to sign language to yoga.  We are always looking for community members to help with any of these clubs.  Contact Jonathan Duvall for more details- jmduvall@spart7.org or by calling the school.

    Lunch Bunch at The Cleveland Academy of Leadership
    Come eat lunch with us and find a friend! Our students love having caring adults eat and chat with them. Contact our Guidance Office if you are interested or email Marquice Clark at mqclark@spart7.org

    Story Starters
    Come share a favorite story with a small group of kids at The Cleveland Academy of Leadership. Kids of all ages love to be read to- there is no better way to build a relationship with a young person. Contact Marquice Clark at mqclark@spart7.org if you are interested.
