- Renovation of Spartanburg High to McCracken Middle
A New Home for the McCracken Eagles
-
Construction work for the new McCracken Middle School is moving at a rapid pace, and the facility will be ready to welcome its first students this fall. The McCracken Middle School conversion is a major renovation of the former Spartanburg High School campus. The majority of the work to upfit the ‘D’ Wing building with new floors, ceilings and new collaboration spaces is complete. Demolition of the former "A, B and C Wings” will begin soon and will happen in stages, ultimately making way for beautiful new green space. The main entrance to McCracken will be at the former Freshmen Academy entrance with an address of 500 Dupre Drive. We will share more on the project over the summer. Make sure to follow us on Facebook for updates!
LOCATION: Dupre Dr.
ESTIMATED COST: $11.6 million
OPENING DATE: Fall 2020
Classroom sizes at the current McCracken Middle School are well below current space requirements and the acreage for athletic and extracurricular activities is limited. Converting the high school to a modern middle school will yield a number of advantages for students and faculty, including the addition of flexible learning spaces, greater room for fine arts and athletic events, optimal classroom sizes and additional parking.
